Highlights include instant cash giveaways and special financial products, including a celebratory 100-day Centennial CD and a Tiered Centennial Money Market Account.
Hawthorne, NJ – Ascendia Bank, formerly Glen Rock Savings Bank, will mark its 100th year on October 8th with a Centennial Celebration from 9am-12pm at each of its four branches: 175 Rock Road in Glen Rock; 250 Lincoln Avenue in Hawthorne; 474 Prospect Avenue in West Orange; and 83 Northfield Avenue in West Orange.
All are welcome to attend, and the earlier the better: The first 200 adults to visit any of the four branch offices during the event will receive a stainless-steel tumbler with anywhere from $1 to $100 cash inside. Other giveaways will take place throughout the morning, and refreshments – including a Happy 100th Birthday cake, will be served.
The celebration also will showcase two special financial products. First, Ascendia Bank will premiere a 100-Day Centennial CD – one day for each year in business – with a minimum $1,000 deposit. Another featured item is Ascendia’s recently introduced Tiered Centennial Money Market Account, also with a minimum $1,000 deposit. This new celebratory Money Market is for new money only, deposits not previously held by Ascendia Bank.
Ascendia’s 100th anniversary is the latest milestone in a lengthy local legacy. Originally called The Building and Loan Association of Ridgewood, the Bank was established in 1922 to provide area residents with fair returns on savings and secure residential home mortgages. Over the years, the institution became so associated with its locale (just across from the town’s iconic rock) that it changed its name to what would become Glen Rock Savings Bank in 1937.
In 2001, the Bank constructed an administrative headquarters in Hawthorne and, in 2015, acquired Llewellyn-Edison Savings Bank of West Orange. Today, the Bank has four branch offices with over $327 million in combined assets.
The financial institution’s new name and refreshed corporate identity was made, in part, due to the geographic expansion of the Bank’s footprint, well beyond its Glen Rock-area roots. In addition, the Bank wanted to communicate a fresher, more forward-leaning brand image since it has added a range of products and services that are essential in today’s fast-paced economy, including: internet banking, online bill pay, a mobile banking application and commercial real estate lending.
The name Ascendia (derived from the word “ascent”) exemplifies the Bank’s commitment to going above and beyond to ensure its customers’ financial security and overall satisfaction. A new motto, “Reaching new heights together,” reinforces this mission.
“The events will showcase how proud we are of the Bank’s history, and how optimistic we are for the future,” said President and CEO Ferdinand R. (Fred) Viaud. “Although the bank’s identity may have recently changed, the heart of our business – our dedication to outstanding customer service and sound financial products – has not. We look forward to celebrating our deep-rooted past and building for the future as we usher Ascendia into its second century.”
